Hare Krsna. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.
This letter writing campaign is a wonderful thing as it allows all devotees a chance to be express their feelings about the changing of Srila Prabhupada's books. However, we can see by the behavior and attitude of Jayadvaita Swami that a letter writing campaign may not have enough effect to get the BBT to bring back the pre-1978 books. What can impact the BBT, though, is supporting and distributing on a mass scale the original books that are available from Krishna Books Inc: http://www.krishnabooks.org.
Could it be that most devotees are not aware that Krishna Books Inc has the legal license to print Srila Prabhupada's pre-1978 books? I even read on the internet how a devotee was saying that the only real answer is to print the original books, so obviously this devotee is unaware that Krishna Books Inc is attempting to do this after a lengthy and expensive lawsuit.
My suggestion is every devotee that supports Srila Prabhupada's adi-vani purchase a case of original Bhagavad-gitas from Krishna Books Inc and distribute them. Or, contact Krishna Books Inc and make a donation.
Some Iskcon devotees are under the impression the original Bhagavad-gita was reprinted out of the goodness of the BBT's heart, when actually the truth is the BBT spent millions of dollars to keep it from being reprinted!
I have recently heard of a large land purchase by a devotee organization in Vrindavana. This is a wonderful thing, very wonderful, but I cannot help but to think that all the money that was spent on a land purchase, could have been spent to help preserve and distribute so many of Srila Prabhupada's books. I am not sure how many books could be printed with a half a million dollars, but I cannot think of a better use of it.
