Jayadvaita Swami's recent response to Gupta das regarding the vast number of changes to the 1972 BG edition is misleading, and the whole matter has been going on like this for years.
The maharaja has given his usual detailed reasons, but neglects to explain that many of the changes are to put things "in his better way". He obviously feels that to "improve" on his guru's words is his perogative.
These changes are very disturbing and dramatically alter Prabhupada's glorious and vastly fruitful work. Besides, he has not proved his case that he was authorised to do so.
The following quote comes to mind, although it was not directed at JS:
Srila Prabhupada: "Why do they think? If I have written one book, my words are my meaning. Why you should give meaning? I shall kick on your face. What right you have got? You write another book. Why should you take my book and give your meaning? What is this?" Morning walk conversation, May 10, 1975, Perth.
Your servant,
Mandapa das
